Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

We have been dealing with an issue regarding specifically the 501dn Model Printers. Some of these devices will randomly produce a 169 IP address signaling a network connection issue. Our usual fix is to just reboot these devices and the correct IP will come up and be fixed. This issue is very sporadic. We've had the same printer produce this issue twice within a few hours.

We have worked with our network team, and have come to the following conclusions:

Here is all that we've done so far:

Made Sure Firmware was upgraded to current version.

Turned off sleep mode.

Taking these problem printers off our of 3rd Party network vendor "ISE".

Changed the Printer VLAN

Changed the Subnet of the network these printers were on.

Since not all 501dn printers are having this issue, we were wondering if this could just be a bad batch of devices. We have 56 501dn Printers, and really only about 10-15 have gotten this issue. We were wondering if the NIC card needs to be upgraded on these devices.

I am opening this ticket to inquire if any of your clients have reported similar issues. We are unsure as to why not all 501dn's at our location is having this problem. We would like to open a ticket to work on this issue with the HP team.
