Hi @MBCORVETTE,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer's connectivity!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Check Printer Compatibility: The HP Envy 6400 series printers should be able to connect to most Wi-Fi networks. However, ensure that your Wi-Fi router supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
Connect Using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup): You can use WPS to connect your printer without needing to enter the network name (SSID) and password manually.
- Put Printer in WPS Mode:
- Press and hold the Wi-Fi button and the Power button on the back of the printer for 5 seconds until the blue bar flashes.
- Press the WPS button on the Router:
- Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS button on your router.
- Check the Connection:
- The blue bar on the printer should stop flashing and remain solid, indicating a successful connection.
Manual Connection via Printer’s Touchscreen: If WPS is not available or doesn't work, try connecting manually via the printer’s touchscreen control panel.
- Go to Setup > Network or Wireless Settings on the printer’s touchscreen.
- Choose Wireless Setup Wizard.
- Follow the prompts to select your network and enter the password.
Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi: Ensure your printer is in range of the Wi-Fi signal and try reconnecting it to the network.
- Printers with a touchscreen control panel: Open the Wireless settings menu, select Wireless Setup Wizard, and follow the instructions.
- Printers without a touchscreen control panel: Press and hold the Wi-Fi button for five seconds until the wireless light starts to flash. Activate the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) button on the router within two minutes.
Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode: If you’ve changed your router or network settings recently, restoring Wi-Fi setup mode may help.
- Touchscreen Printers: On the control panel, go to Setup > Wireless menu > Network Setup or Settings > Restore Network Settings.
Connection Troubleshooting Tips
Check Network Band: Make sure your router is broadcasting both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. Some printers can only connect to the 2.4 GHz network.
Restart Devices: Turn off and then turn on your printer, router, and computer/mobile devices to clear any existing connection issues.
Signal Strength: Ensure the printer is within an acceptable range of the Wi-Fi router to receive a good signal.
Firmware Updates: Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. You can update printer firmware via HP's Support page.
For additional assistance and troubleshooting, refer to HP's detailed guide on connecting printers to Wi-Fi.
I hope this helps.
