I set up an admin password in the embedded web server, and I can't remember the details to login the adminstrator settings. How do I reset it?

I understand you’ve forgotten the administrator password for the Embedded Web Server (EWS) on your HP OfficeJet Pro 7720. Let’s go through a few steps to reset it.
a. Restore Network Settings (Resets EWS Password Only)
• On the printer screen, go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Restore → Restore Network Settings.
• This will remove the EWS admin password but won’t delete your print/fax settings.
b. Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi/Ethernet
• After the reset, reconnect to your network (Wireless Setup Wizard or Ethernet cable).
• Print a Network Configuration Page if you need the IP address (Setup → Reports → Network Summary).
c. Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS)
• Open a browser on your PC/phone and type the printer’s IP address in the address bar.
• The EWS should now open without asking for a password.
d. Create a New Admin Password (Optional)
• Go to Settings → Security → Administrator Settings.
• Create a new admin password and save it in a secure place.
e. If Restore Network Settings Doesn’t Work → Full Reset
• Go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Restore → Restore Factory Defaults.
• This will reset all printer settings back to default, including the admin password.
• You’ll need to set up Wi-Fi again afterward.
I hope this helps.

Hi @Joashnd,
Thanks for sharing the screenshots!
From the images, it’s clear that the Control Panel is locked, and the printer is asking for the administrator username and password you had previously set.
Since you mentioned that you no longer remember the password, here’s what you can do next to unlock/reset it:
Option 1: Restore Network Settings (Easiest & Safe)
This will remove only the EWS (Embedded Web Server) admin password and panel lock, it will NOT delete print/fax settings.
On the printer screen, go to:
Setup (⚙️) → Printer Maintenance → Restore → Restore Network Settings
Confirm the reset.
The printer will restart and disconnect from Wi-Fi.
Reconnect it to Wi-Fi using the Wireless Setup Wizard.
Try opening settings again — it should no longer ask for a password.
Option 2: Full Factory Reset (If the lock still remains)
This will reset everything — Wi-Fi, settings, and admin password.
On the printer:
Setup → Printer Maintenance → Restore → Restore Factory Defaults
The printer will reboot to first-time setup (language, region, Wi-Fi, etc.).
After setup, the Control Panel lock will be removed.
You can then access all menus and set a new password if needed.
Important Tips
After unlocking, if you want to set a new password, go to:
EWS → Settings → Security → Administrator Settings
Save it somewhere safe to avoid being locked out again.
Do not turn on “Control Panel Lock” unless you are certain of the password.
I hope this helps.
