HP DeskJet 2755e All-in-One Printer
macOS 10.12 Sierra

Hi! I’m trying to connect my printer to the wifi and it’s coming up on my laptop to connect but is asking for a password. I cannot figure this password out and it won’t let me connect without it. Please help

Hello,

Before I walk you through the correct setup flow, I need a bit more detail so I don’t assume the wrong issue. A DeskJet 2755e will ask for a password only in two situations, and each has a different fix:

I need you to confirm which case you’re seeing:

1. Is your Mac trying to connect to the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct network?

This would look like a network named something similar to:
HP-Setup>DeskJet2750series-xxx or DIRECT-xx-HP DeskJet 2700 series
If so, the password is printed on the printer’s label (Wi-Fi Direct password), not your home Wi-Fi password.

OR

2. Are you trying to connect the printer to your home Wi-Fi, and macOS is asking for the Wi-Fi password of your router?

If that's the case, the printer needs your home Wi-Fi password, not an HP password.

To move forward, I need you to tell me:

  1. What exact network name is your Mac asking a password for?

  2. Are you using the HP Smart app on macOS 10.12, or are you trying to connect manually?

  3. Has the printer already had Wi-Fi configured before, or is this the first setup?

I am an HP Employee. Although I am speaking for myself and not for HP.
