I don't know where you landed or why you would have been "sent" somewhere.

HP does not send customers to random companies or websites to get help with printer or computer issues.

Not.

Hopefully, you've not given away any of your private information.

HP does not sell security software --

===========  Correction ==============

HP sells specialized Enterprise level security products.

You must proactively contact HP for information – Reference:  HP Wolf Security Products

HP will never demand, ask, or hint that you should purchase high-level security software because you need help with your printer.

=====================================

HP does not sneak onto your computer and then tell you your computer is full of bugs. 🐛

HP does not promise, threaten, demand allegiance, trick, or tell you that you must pay for software or drivers.

Beware of Fake Sites

The "Real Deal"

123.hp.com - Printer setup from the HP® Official site

https://123.hp.com/

The official HP 123 site is where you can find the appropriate (and free) software and drivers for your printer.

There are many “fake” sites listed (in search engines) for “123” – please make sure you are using the actual “HP” site.

If you are asked for money to correct "issues" on your printer or computer OR if the “help” wants to sell you software, threatens you, or wants to log into your computer, you are using a “fake” site. Do not give these people your information!

HP support also connected me with PC macwin. I was on (what I thought was) the HP website because I was having trouble connecting my printer and MacBook Pro via wifi. It looked like the HP website I have been to before. A chat support option popped up in the lower right corner. When I clicked on it, the responding agent identified themselves as HP support. Asked questions, then said a technical support agent could call me and walk me through the setup and trouble shoot. I was called within 3 minutes. The person on the phone said that usually "this problem" was due to a malware or trojan. He would be happy to look for it and remove it for $199. He said I could given him my routing number and checking account number for payment as using a credit card incurred a fee.  I was immediately suspicious. He then asked me if I would go to 123logmein.com to allow him access to my computer. That's when I hung up. He called back several times after that until I answer and told him I thought this was a scam and not to call again.

This is the almost exact thing that happened tonight while helping my mom install her printer. However, she did pay them as it sounded legit but I'm having second thoughts now. It started thru what appeared to be the hp website.  I have HP and know what it looks like. My mom has been hacked several times so I'm concerned. Why can verify if this PC macwin is a legitimate software company? And does HP contract with them? Or should we be stopping payment on the check?

Rhonda,

A legit company would accept credit cards, not insist on checking account info. Please contact your Mother's bank. I could not find any information about PC macwin except an article about a scam.
