I have removed and reinstalled my printer due to replacement of printer. I have it hard wired to the modem because I needed to scan documents, but I cannot print from my phone. I have the email address updated. What am I doing wrong? My phone cannot find the printer

Hi @Needy9

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it feels when your phone just won’t see the printer, especially after you’ve already gone through the effort of reinstalling and wiring it to the modem. Thank you for taking those steps — that shows real persistence.

Let’s walk through a few checks together to get your phone and printer talking wirelessly again:

Confirm printer’s network connection
Since the printer is hard‑wired to the modem, it should already be on the same network. On the printer’s control panel, open the network settings and verify that it shows “Connected” with an IP address.

Check your phone’s Wi‑Fi
Make sure your phone is connected to the same Wi‑Fi network that the printer is using. If your modem broadcasts multiple networks (like 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), try connecting your phone to the 2.4 GHz band, as printers often prefer that.

Use the HP App
Open the HP App on your phone and tap “Add Printer.” If the printer doesn’t appear automatically, choose “Set up a new printer” and enter the printer’s IP address manually. You can find the IP address on the printer’s network report or settings menu.

Restart devices
Power cycle the modem, printer, and phone. Sometimes a fresh handshake between devices clears hidden connection blocks.

Check mobile printing settings
On your phone, ensure Wi‑Fi is enabled and that mobile printing services (like Mopria or AirPrint, depending on your phone type) are active. These services help the phone discover printers on the network.

Test with a simple print
Try printing a test page directly from the HP App. If that works, your phone and printer are successfully communicating.

You’ve already updated the printer’s email address, which is great for cloud printing, but for direct wireless printing the local Wi‑Fi connection is the key.

Once the phone and printer are on the same network and the HP App recognizes the printer, you should be able to print seamlessly.
