I don't know how print from my smart phone, a Google Pixel phone. I find the instructions in the HP manual RT5-1334-000 from 2018 confusing. I followed the steps under "Wifi Direct printing" and managed to connect to "DIRECT-0D-HP M148 LadserJet" but with a message that I was not connected to internet. Then I gave up.
I am able to print from my MacBook Air. I connected the printer by pressing WPS on the router.

Hi @BoMagne
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Printing from your Google Pixel phone to the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148 using Wi-Fi Direct can be a bit tricky, but I can help simplify the process. Here’s a step-by-step guide:
Step 1: Ensure Printer is Ready
- Make sure your printer is turned on and in a ready state.
Step 2: Connect to the Printer via Wi-Fi Direct
Open Wi-Fi Settings on Your Pixel:
- Go to Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi.
Find the Printer’s Wi-Fi Direct Network:
- Look for the network named "DIRECT-0D-HP M148 LaserJet" (or similar) and tap on it to connect. You might see a prompt about not being connected to the internet—this is normal, as you'll be connecting directly to the printer.
Enter the Password:
- If prompted, enter the Wi-Fi Direct password, which is usually printed on a label on the printer or can be found in the printer's settings.
Step 3: Print from Your Phone
Open the Document or Image you want to print.
Tap the Share Icon:
- In most apps (like Google Photos, Google Drive, or Documents), you will see a Share icon (usually an arrow pointing upwards).
Select Print:
- From the share options, select Print or find the print option in the app’s menu.
Choose Your Printer:
- Tap on the dropdown menu to select a printer. Your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148 should appear in the list. If it doesn’t, you may need to tap on "All Printers" to find it.
Adjust Settings:
- Choose your print settings (number of copies, color options, etc.) as needed.
Print:
- Tap the Print button to start printing.
Step 4: Disconnect from Wi-Fi Direct (Optional)
- After printing, you can disconnect from the printer's Wi-Fi Direct network to reconnect to your usual Wi-Fi network.
Alternative: Using HP Smart App
If you find the above steps tricky, consider using the HP Smart app:
- Download the HP Smart App from the Google Play Store.
- Open the app and follow the instructions to add your printer.
- You can print directly from the app, and it often simplifies the process.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you Rachel. I tried the second alternative with HP smart app.
At the top of the start page in the app, my printer was displayed with a green tick mark next to it plus a not "Some features unavailable".
Next I clicked on Print Documents and selected a PDF-file. The preview screen was displayed where I choose Share and then Print. At the top of the screen my printer was displayed. Instead of starting the print job this message was displayed "This printer isn't available right now".
I check the settings and the wifi page and the DIRECT-0d HP... network was found under Saved networks and the status was Saved/Check password and try again. Which I did, using the Wi-fi Direct password on the printout Network Summary, under wi-fi setup. But connect failed again with "disconnected/check password try again. I am sure I typed the password correctly.
On the settings-wifi the phone was connected to my normal home network during the whole process.
A question: the display on the printer goes into sleep mode rather quickly. Could that have anything to do with my problems?
