Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.
HP Recommended

I have no internet, only on my samsung phone mobile network. Phone can be used as a hot spot.

Old printer connected great. Had to enter password, but printer has a touch screen and was very easy. Need to replace that printer.

Have bought 2 HP printers and can't get either to work. Inkjets and desk jet. Says to use wifi direct. Can't even get through setup. Wifi on. Hotspot on. Bluetooth on. Phone set to use network and wifi share. Wifi direct enable on printer. During setup, the phone and printer stop talking. Hp app says no internet.

Is there a printer like the old one? It was just a plug and play. Just for home. No super expensive giant printer.

Old printer was was office etc 4650.

Thanks

Hi @Print-probs,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer isn’t connecting properly when using your mobile hotspot. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check Mobile Hotspot Settings

Make sure your phone’s hotspot is set to broadcast on 2.4 GHz, as most printers don’t support 5 GHz networks.

Disable “AP Isolation” or “Privacy Separator” in hotspot settings if available, since this can prevent devices from communicating.

Connect the Printer to Your Hotspot

On the printer’s control panel, open Network Setup or Wireless Settings.

Select your mobile hotspot name (SSID), enter the password, and confirm the connection.

Use Wi-Fi Direct if Hotspot Connection Fails

Turn on Wi-Fi Direct on your printer.

From your phone’s Wi-Fi list, connect directly to the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct network (name usually starts with “DIRECT-HP”).

Once connected, open the HP Smart app and try printing.

Ensure Both Devices Are on the Same Network

If using the hotspot method, confirm your phone (used for printing) and the printer are both connected to the same hotspot network.

If using Wi-Fi Direct, make sure you stay connected to the printer’s direct network during printing.

Restart and Re-initialize the Connection

Turn off your printer and phone hotspot for 30 seconds.

Power on the hotspot first, wait for it to stabilize, then turn the printer back on and reconnect.

Test with the HP Smart App

Open the HP Smart app on your phone, select “Add Printer,” and follow the setup prompts.

Choose Wi-Fi Direct or your hotspot network when prompted.

I hope this helps.
