Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

When the printer is idle for a few hours  it disconnects from my Wi-Fi upon awakening.

We have to turn it off and turn it back on every morning so that it is "seen" on the network.

It will then work fine with all wireless devices like laptops, phones etc. until the next idle period.

It is very annoying to have run back and forth turning off and back on the printer.

Otherwise an excellent product.

Hi @rlof2453,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e disconnects from Wi-Fi after sitting idle for a few hours, and you need to power-cycle it each morning to get it back online. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

1. Check Printer Sleep & Power Settings

On the printer control panel, go to Setup → Preferences → Power Management → Sleep Mode.

Set Sleep Mode to a longer duration or disable Deep Sleep if available.

Make sure Energy Save Mode is not turning off the wireless radio.

2. Verify Router & Network Stability

Restart your Wi-Fi router by unplugging it for 30 seconds and plugging it back in.

Place the printer within 6–8 feet of the router with minimal walls or obstructions in between.

Ensure you are connecting to a 2.4 GHz network (OfficeJet Pro 9125e does not support 5 GHz for all functions).

If your router has a setting like “Wi-Fi Power Saving” or “Smart Connect”, try disabling it.

3. Assign a Static IP Address to the Printer

On the printer’s control panel, go to Network → Wireless Settings → Advanced Settings → IP Settings → Manual/Static.

Note the current IP address (for example, 192.168.1.xxx) and enter it manually as a static IP.

Save the changes.

This prevents the router from assigning a new IP each time the printer wakes up.

4. Check for Firmware Updates

On the printer: Setup → Printer Maintenance → Update the Printer → Check Now.

Alternatively, visit HP Support on your PC and install the latest firmware for the 9125e.

Firmware updates often address connectivity and sleep-mode issues.

5. Ensure the Printer is Registered with HP Smart

Open the HP Smart app on your Windows 11 device.

Go to Printer Settings → Advanced → Web Services and ensure the printer is properly registered and Web Services are enabled.

HP+ and Instant Ink features rely on a consistent connection to stay active.

6. Restart Network & Devices in Proper Sequence

Turn off the printer, then the router, then your PC.

Power up the router first and wait until it’s fully online.

Turn on the printer next, then your computer.

This sequence helps establish a clean connection.

I hope this helps.

Hi @rlof2453,

Thank you for your update. I understand it’s frustrating that your HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e continues to disconnect from Wi-Fi after idle periods, even after trying the previous steps. Let’s try a few additional measures that often help resolve persistent connectivity issues:

1. Disable “Wi-Fi Deep Sleep” Completely

On the printer control panel: Setup → Preferences → Power Management → Deep Sleep.

If there’s an option to completely disable Deep Sleep, do so. This keeps the wireless radio active even when idle.

2. Update Router Settings

Ensure your router’s DHCP lease time is long enough (e.g., 24 hours) so the printer keeps its IP.

Disable Wi-Fi “Smart Connect”, Power Saving, or Airtime Fairness features if enabled, as these can cause devices to drop after idle periods.

If possible, assign the printer to a reserved IP via the router’s DHCP reservation instead of relying solely on static IP from the printer.

3. Reconnect via HP Smart or Wired Setup Temporarily

Try connecting the printer temporarily via USB and then running HP Smart → Printer Setup → Wireless Setup again.

This sometimes refreshes the wireless profile and prevents post-idle drops.

4. Factory Reset Printer Network Settings

On the printer: Setup → Network Setup → Restore Network Settings.

Reconnect to Wi-Fi afterward. This can resolve any corrupt profile causing intermittent disconnects.

5. Firmware & HP Smart Re-registration

Even if updated, sometimes reapplying the latest firmware fixes intermittent drops.

After firmware update, re-register the printer with HP Smart, ensuring Web Services and HP+ are enabled.

I hope this helps.
