I have HP Printer Smart Tank 520 All-in-One, and my new laptop is Advan. I successfully installed the printer and it shows online/ready, but then I cannot print a single document be it pdf of non pdf as it said cannot print and error. Previously, I installed the printer in my other laptop and it was doing just fine.

What should I do?

Hi @tine15,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand that your HP Smart Tank 520 All‑in‑One Printer installs successfully and shows Online / Ready on your new Advan laptop, but does not print documents, while it works correctly on another computer. This behavior indicates a software or driver communication issue on the new laptop, not a printer hardware fault.

Please follow the recommended steps below, in the order provided.

Step 1: Remove the existing printer installation (required)

  1. Disconnect the printer from the laptop (USB cable or Wi‑Fi temporarily).
  2. On the Advan laptop, open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
  3. Select HP Smart Tank 520.
  4. Click Remove device.

This clears the incorrect or incomplete driver installation.

Step 2: Install the correct HP software

HP Smart Tank printers require HP‑specific drivers for full functionality.

  1. Open this official HP page: HP Smart Tank 520 All-in-One series Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
  2. Select the correct Windows version installed on your Advan laptop.
  3. Download and install HP Smart / Full Feature Software as listed.

During installation, connect the printer only when prompted.

Step 3: Set the printer as the default

  1. Go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
  2. Select HP Smart Tank 520.
  3. Click Set as default.

An incorrect default selection commonly causes jobs to fail even when the printer shows “Ready”.

Step 4: Test printing from Windows (not HP Smart)

  1. Go to Printers & scanners.
  2. Select HP Smart Tank 520.
  3. Click Print a test page.

If the test page prints, normal printing is restored

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
