Hello

I have a M140 Printer, connected over WLAN. WLAN Connection ist successful and i can print anything. But the WLan Connection is interrupted after Minutes. On the Printer the WLan Icon flashes, after minutes. Sometime one Minute, sometime up to 5 Minutes. I change the Energy Settings, but without any effect.

I ping the printer, so i have Traffic. After Minutes no connection.

The Printer is close to the WLan Router, with good WLan Signal.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks

Hi @Freak42,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Printer M140's WLAN connection is interrupted after a few minutes, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue.

Check Firmware and Software Updates:

  • Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Visit the HP support website to download and install the latest firmware for your model.
  • Update the drivers and software for your printer on your computer.

Router Settings:

  • Ensure your router firmware is up to date.
  • Check your router’s settings. Sometimes, certain settings like IP lease time can affect connectivity.
  • Try assigning a static IP address to your printer to avoid any IP conflicts or lease expiration issues.

Printer Settings:

  • Check the energy-saving settings on the printer. Although you mentioned changing these settings, ensure that the printer is set to stay on during the required times.
  • Look for any sleep or power-saving modes in the printer’s menu and disable them temporarily to see if this affects connectivity.

Network Configuration:

  • Ensure that your network is not set to use different bands for different devices. If your router supports dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz), make sure the printer is connected to the correct band. Sometimes, switching the band can improve stability.
  • Ensure that there are no other devices on the network causing interference.

Ping Test and Logs:

  • Perform a continuous ping test to see exactly when the printer drops the connection. Open a Command Prompt (Windows) or Terminal (macOS) and use ping [printer IP address] -t (Windows) or ping [printer IP address] (macOS/Linux).
  • Check the printer’s logs (if available) to see if there are any error messages when the connection drops.

Wi-Fi Channel:

  • Change the Wi-Fi channel on your router. Sometimes, interference on a particular channel can cause connectivity issues. Channels 1, 6, and 11 are often recommended for 2.4GHz networks.

Firewall and Security:

  • Check if your router’s firewall or security settings are interfering with the printer’s connection. Temporarily disable any firewall to see if the issue resolves.
  • Ensure that MAC address filtering is not enabled on the router, or if it is, ensure the printer's MAC address is allowed.

Network Restart:

  • Restart your router and printer. Sometimes a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.
  • Reset the network settings on the printer and reconnect to the WLAN.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
