Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.
HP Recommended

I encounter this problem frequently with all different models of wireless HP printers, both laserjets & inkjets.  Not long atter the printer is installed and everything appears to be working, the user will go to print something and it will appear "offline" in Windows, thus showing a backup of print requests. Once the printer is restarted, it works again.... for a little while. Then the problem returns. It seems to happen every couple of days or so. Since I'm seeing this with so many different printers, i'm guessing this must be a known HP bug and there should be solutions out there. Any suggestions or steps to put an end to this problem? Thank you in advance. 😁

Hi @GTifeld,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand that experiencing your HP printers frequently appearing offline can be frustrating. This issue is common across different models, including both laserjet and inkjet printers. Here are some troubleshooting steps to address this problem:

Update Printer and Router Firmware: Ensure that both your printer and router are updated with the latest firmware. This can help resolve connectivity issues that may cause the printer to appear offline. Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support.

Check Connection and Network Settings:

  • Make sure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.

  • Check the signal strength; placing the printer closer to the router can help improve connectivity.

  • Disable any "smart network switching" features on your devices, which could be causing the printer to disconnect intermittently.

Configure Printer Settings in Windows:

  • Open “Devices and Printers” in the Control Panel.

  • Right-click your printer, and choose "See what's printing".

  • Make sure “Use Printer Offline” is not selected.

Restart Printer and Devices:

  • Restarting can sometimes resolve the network connectivity issue temporarily.

  • Consider scheduling regular restarts of your router and printer if the problem persists.

Set a Static IP Address: Assigning a static IP address to your printer can prevent it from losing connectivity when the router assigns new IP addresses to devices on the network.

Disable IPv6 on the Printer: Go to the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) and disable IPv6 under the network settings. Some network configurations have issues with IPv6.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Jerry,

My apologies for not getting back to you sooner. I have a couple of people in particular who have been having this problem lately. I haven't had a chance to visit them lately, but I'll be following up with them over the course of the coming week. Once I have, I will let you know how I do with your suggestions. Thank you very much for your time & assistance. I greatly appreciate. 😊

Regards,

Hi @GTifeld,

Thank you for responding.

I understand that your printer is showing as offline and that you have not yet had the opportunity to follow up on the suggestions provided. Please note that printer offline issues are often related to network connectivity or driver configuration rather than the hardware itself. To move forward, I recommend verifying that the printer and computer are connected to the same network, ensuring the printer is set as the default device, and running the HP  app’s Diagnose & Fix tool. Meanwhile I would request you to please check with you friend and revert if the issue persists.

Have a good day.
