So earlier this was responded to by Raj_o5 with :
- Check printer settings: Ensure that the printer is set to "online" mode. Go to the printer settings and select "printer offline" to uncheck the option.
This would be great, but where are the printer settings these days? Could be hidden in the printer software someplace, in my
PC/laptop/phone, or in the HP Smart that seems to be a requirement to actually getting something printed...occasionally.
I looked at the printer Configuration Report, but there is NOTHING listed there as online or offline. It does say Web Services Enabled & lists an IP Address...?

Hi @JWR01,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
To change printer settings in Windows 11 and ensure your printer is set to "online" mode, you can follow these steps:
Open Settings:
- Click on the Start button or press the Windows key on your keyboard.
- Select Settings (the gear icon).
Navigate to Bluetooth & devices:
- Within Settings, click on "Bluetooth & devices" on the left sidebar.
- Select "Printers & scanners."
Select Your Printer:
- Find your HP LaserJet MFP M234dwe in the list of printers and click on it.
- Click on "Open queue."
Printer Settings:
- In the printer queue window, click on "Printer" at the top left.
- Ensure that "Use Printer Offline" is unchecked. If it's checked, click on it to uncheck and set the printer to online mode.
Using HP Smart App:
If you're using the HP Smart App (which is common for HP printers), you can also check the printer status through the app:
Open HP Smart App:
- Launch the HP Smart app on your PC/laptop/phone.
Select Your Printer:
- On the home screen of the HP Smart app, select your HP LaserJet MFP M234dwe printer.
Check Printer Status:
- The app provides detailed status information about your printer, including whether it's offline or online.
- If your printer is offline, follow the prompts in the app to troubleshoot or change its status.
Troubleshooting Printer Offline Issue:
Restart Printer and Computer:
- Turn off the printer and your computer. Wait for a few minutes, then restart both devices.
Check Network Connection:
- Ensure that your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Go to the HP Software and Driver Downloads page and ensure you have the latest drivers for your printer model.
Set Printer as Default:
- In the "Printers & scanners" settings, click on your printer and select "Set as default."
I hope this helps.
