Hello,
I'm trying to connect my printer to the Instant Ink service.
From the HP Smart app I click on the Instant Ink icon, follow the instructions, then it asks me to print a page with the code but I can't do it - I only have Instant Ink cartridges and they are blocked until the printer is enrolled with the service.
I retrieve the code from the setup of the printer (Printer code - Claim Code), I insert it on the HP Smart page but it always give me the error "Server Error, try again".
I've tried MULTIPLE times, nothing happens. I've tried from both PC and mobile device, nothing.
The Web Services are on (I've already tried to remove and reinstall it), the printer is connected to my PC and to the internet.
This is the error:
Any ideas?
Thank you for your help.

Hi @Nepi,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like you're encountering a common issue when trying to set up an HP printer with Instant Ink for the first time. Since you have Instant Ink cartridges in your printer but haven't enrolled it in the service yet, you'll need to perform a workaround to get your printer connected to Instant Ink and print the necessary page with the code.
Here's a step-by-step guide to help you resolve this issue:
Unblock the Instant Ink Cartridges:
- Turn on your HP ENVY Photo 6230 printer.
- Wait for the printer to display an error message about the Instant Ink cartridges being blocked. This typically happens when you haven't enrolled in the Instant Ink program yet.
- The printer should provide an option to "Learn More" or "OK." Select this option to proceed.
Connect to Wi-Fi:
- Ensure that your printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network. This is essential for setting up the Instant Ink service.
Enroll in HP Instant Ink Online:
- On your computer or mobile device, go to the HP Instant Ink website (www.hpinstantink.com) and create an account or log in if you already have one.
Add Your Printer:
- Once you're logged in, navigate to your account settings and add your HP ENVY Photo 6230 printer to your account. You'll need to enter the printer's serial number or complete the on-screen instructions to identify your printer.
Select Your Plan:
- Choose a suitable Instant Ink plan based on your printing needs and preferences.
Print the Page with the Code:
- After enrolling your printer in the Instant Ink service, you should be able to print the page with the necessary code. This code is usually needed to complete the enrollment process.
Complete the Setup:
- Follow the on-screen instructions provided during the Instant Ink enrollment process to complete the setup.
Check Cartridge Status:
- Once the setup is complete, check the status of your Instant Ink cartridges. They should now be recognized and ready to use.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
