I have attempted to put my printer on-line once again. It appears to go off-line frequently and the solution escapes me. Could use some support with a live person. Thanks.

Hi @Scott34,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer frequently goes offline, it is usually caused by an unstable Wi-Fi connection, a changing IP address, or Windows communication settings. The steps below help restore a stable connection and prevent the printer from repeatedly showing as offline.

1. Disable the Use Printer Offline Setting:

Sometimes Windows keeps the printer in offline mode even after it reconnects.

  • Windows 11: Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select your printer, open the Print queue, click Printer, and make sure Use Printer Offline is unchecked.

  • Windows 10: Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, select See what's printing, click Printer, and uncheck Use Printer Offline.

2. Disable SNMP Status:

SNMP communication delays can incorrectly mark the printer as offline.

  1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.

  2. Right-click your printer and select Printer Properties.

  3. Go to the Ports tab, select the active port, and click Configure Port.

  4. Uncheck SNMP Status Enabled, then click OK and restart both the printer and your computer.

3. Assign a Static IP Address:

A static IP prevents the printer's network address from changing, helping maintain a reliable connection.

  1. Print a Network Configuration page to find the printer's IP address.

  2. Enter the IP address into a web browser to open the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS).

  3. Under Network Settings, change the IP configuration from DHCP/Automatic to Manual/Static.

4. Remove and Re-Add the Printer:

Reinstalling the printer refreshes the connection if the existing configuration has become corrupted.

  • Remove the printer from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.

  • Restart your printer, computer, and Wi-Fi router.

  • Re-add the printer using the latest HP software or Windows setup.

5. Update the Printer Driver:

Using the latest HP driver improves communication and resolves many offline issues.

  • Download and install the latest full-feature printer driver for your HP printer from the Official HP® Support.

I hope this helps resolve the offline issue. If the problem continues, please let us know your HP printer model, Windows version, and whether the printer is connected via Wi-Fi or USB, and we'll be happy to assist further.

Take care and have a great day!

I'm an HP Employee.
