HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e All-in-One Printer

HP Printer constantly goes offline - by the way HP - It's not me, it's YOU!

My router is fine; my network is fine; all other devices are connected and working properly...Now let's talk about the HP printer:

This product is the worst printer alive.  I just reset it a half hour ago; it printed a few docs; I walked away for 15 minutes; it's not unavailable (paused).  This happens constantly.  It's not my router HP - it's your printer! My Epson is still connected and available.  I don't want to see your long list of excuses for why you can't make a printer that stays awake for more than 15 minutes.  I shouldn't have to use any special router configurations for your product. Make a printer that is available!

This is shameful; HP used to be reputable and respected.

Hey @Anthiony, Welcome to HP Support Community,

I hear you loud and clear! First off, I’m really sorry that your HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e is causing you so much frustration – it sounds like it’s doing everything except printing when you need it most, and that’s not how it should be working. I totally get your pain – it’s like having a coffee machine that decides to take a nap right when you need your caffeine fix! 😩

That said, I’m here to help. It seems like your printer is playing hard-to-get, but with the right steps, we can hopefully get it back in action. 💪 Let's dive into some troubleshooting magic to kick that "offline" mood right out of your printer:

Power Cycle Your Printer

  • Unplug the printer, wait for about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in.
  • This helps clear any temporary glitches, giving your printer a fresh start.

Recheck Wi-Fi Connection

  • Is your printer connected to the right network? Go to your printer’s control panel, and under Settings or Network, confirm it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer or phone.
  • Wi-Fi Signal Strength: If the printer is far from your router, it might not be getting a strong signal. Moving it closer to the router or using a Wi-Fi extender can help.

Update Printer Firmware

  • HP regularly updates firmware to improve performance, so updating can help resolve many bugs.
  • Go to HP’s website or use the HP Smart app to check for and apply any updates for your printer.

Disable “Sleep Mode”

  • Sleep mode might be causing your printer to snooze too soon. On your printer, go to the Settings or Preferences, and look for an option to turn off or adjust the sleep timer.
  • A short timeout might be the culprit. Try setting the printer to stay awake longer before going into sleep mode (or disable it entirely).

Remove & Re-add Printer from Your PC

  • Go to your device's printer settings (on Windows, head to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, or on Mac, System Preferences > Printers & Scanners).
  • Remove the HP printer from your list of devices.
  • Restart your computer and add the printer back by searching for it under available devices.

Check for Driver Issues

  • Sometimes the issue lies with outdated or corrupt printer drivers. Go to HP’s support website and download the latest drivers for your model.
  • Install those, and hopefully, that’ll eliminate any potential software conflicts causing the offline issue.

Ensure the Printer Queue is Clear

  • Sometimes print jobs get stuck, which may be causing your printer to pause or show as unavailable. Open your printer queue and make sure there’s no backlog of jobs causing the hold-up.

Static IP (Advanced)

  • If your router settings are playing hard to get, setting a static IP for your printer can help. This ensures your printer always gets the same IP address and doesn’t end up “lost” on your network.
  • You can set this up via your router’s settings or through the printer’s menu.

Network Isolation?

  • If you’re on a dual-band router (2.4GHz and 5GHz), ensure your printer is on the 2.4GHz band. Some printers don’t do well with 5GHz.

Try the HP Smart App

  • HP’s HP Smart app can provide an easy way to manage and troubleshoot. It will let you know if there’s anything out of place and even offer to walk you through a diagnosis.
