Thanks for the response, but the HP2900 does not have a swipe down Control Panel. I also followed the suggested steps in the You Tube video, to no avail. I cannot find sleep settings.

Frankly I feel like throwing the printer out ( I bought it in Feb 26) and buying an Epson or something.

Not sure to whom you are responding, though it doesn't matter and we can start from the beginning.

OK...

  • Sure, if the printer does not work and we cannot help, it makes sense that you will replace it.
  • We do not judge what people decide -- all the major printer manufacturers build a decent product.
  • DeskJet printers are entry level printers -- should you decide to replace it and a full service printer control panel is important to you, check that feature before your next printer purchase.

I wonder if anything might have been missed.

The information in this message is meant as FYI and not a critique of what you have already tried.

  -- Offline Condition --

Although the printer appears to be switched on, it does not communicate with other devices on your network.

What you do to correct the issue depends on the underlying cause.

Next,

If your printer is assigned a manual / static IP address it is better able to find its way back onto the network.

Re-Read how to Restore your printer to network defaults.

For example, Page 51

Reset printer network settings from the control panel

Press the Cancel button and the Wi-Fi button at the same time for 3 seconds

While you have the document open,

Try / Consider

If you are running on 5GHz and using an assigned (static / manual) IP address --

and

If the connection is not working as hoped,

then

Perhaps switch to 2.4GHz.

Stable and slower is always better than faster but flaky.

Other factors, of course, include router age, type, strength, configuration, and location.

-- Wireless --

Open your Browser >

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Note → If the browser security will not let you open EWS, try a different browser.

Tab Network > Wireless (802.11) > IPv4 Configuration

As Available:

Tab Network > Wireless (802.11) > Advanced

Section Advanced

Network Interface on / off, Network SSID name, Security Settings, Passphrase / Password

Select and connect to the correct SSID / network name for the bandwidth you are using.

Notes

  • If your browser security will not allow you to open EWS, try a different browser.
  • →  It is not mandatory that you use a manual / static IP address.  Doing so can improve stability.
  • →  If you assign a manual / static address on the printer, update your router to reflect the assigned IP address.
  • EWS sections might be locked and require the printer’s PIN number to access.  Find the printer’s default PIN inside the ink cartridge ink cartridge / area, or perhaps on the bottom or back of the printer.  Check your printer’s User Guide first chapter for details – search the document for “ PIN “.

Next,

If not tried --

Consider / Try

The printer supports Wi-Fi Direct (no router limited wireless).

Wi-Fi Direct uses the wireless radio in your printer to connect directly to the Wireless on your device (computer, tablet, phone).  While Wi-Fi Direct is useless for connecting the printer to the Internet (and, for example, Instant Ink or Cloud services), when it can be used, the limited connection does eliminate the chance that the issue is related to a weak, poorly located (perhaps too far away or even much too close), outdated, or incompletely configured, router.
