I changes router, then printer does not recognize new SSDI, I do not know how to go into the printer and change SSDI, therefore wi-fi light is blinking blue.  I turned off printer and computer and router, after 3 minutes turned all of them on, nothing changed.  I can not print except "Printer Information Report",  "Configuration Report", "Network Summary", "Wireless Network Test Report".  Need help getting printer on line

For general help for new router or printer please refer to this article in our printer database.

Please provide the exact model name of the printer for better assistance as I may be able to find videos to show how to connect or fix the problem. A printer can be a PRO or a PLUS or have the letter 'e' after the number and that can make a big difference. Some printers with the same number ID could be a LaserJet, Deskjet, or Officejet.

New ISP, same old printers, PCs and smartphones: Log into the modem or router and change the SSID (names) of each band so the names are different. Create a numeric password identical for each band to simplify login. If you must use alphanumeric characters then do not use any from this set: ilL1oO0D8B5S as they are easily mixed up depending on the font used. Be sure to run the application (if any) that finds the best channel for each band. Your ISP should be able to do all of this for you if you need help.

Please make the SSID changes then watch one or more videos.  You will not need to install any drivers as the system was working before the router change.  if you make the new router use the same SSID and same password all your devices will usually reconnect automatically.

Otherwise ...

The below is all know about your LaserJet: 234.  Hope I am not oversharing!

Watch the reset video or perform the steps. After resetting, you generally have 2 hours to complete the setup. Decide if you want to connect the printer to the router or to print directly to the printer and bypass the router.

Many HP and other OEM printers have problems with the router when the router has two or more bands and all have the same name (SSID). Log into the modem and rename one of the bands. Alternately, contact your ISP and have them rename a band.

Or simply use Wi-Fi direct (but read note below about Instant Ink).

If English is not your native language or if you wish to get additional information not covered below, then use the HP and Microsoft support assistants. The latest HPSA supports 36 languages and can be downloaded here. Microsoft's AI assistant is in the latest Windows 10 and 11 releases and there are instructions here on how to enable the AI. Microsoft's AI assistant (Copilot) has a microphone button and supports natural language processing.

Do not call any phone numbers shown in any of the videos or revealed by a Bing or Google search. You may need to reset your printer.

Disconnecting the USB cable may still leave the printer in the wired or Wi-Fi mode. Connecting an ethernet cable may still leave the printer in Wi-Fi mode. The Wi-Fi reset is used to put Wi-Fi printers into setup mode. Some resets are simple and others require a video to understand. Factory resets cannot be revealed in this forum. To do a factory reset of your printer, you must contact HP.

Wi-Fi reset instructions and videos (if any) are shown below. Generally you have 2 hours to connect your printer after performing the Wi-Fi reset. Note that a reset video may show a slightly different model than yours. Do not call any phone numbers revealed in any video or site.

Microsoft's Copilot may have more recent videos.
MacOS 14 or higher needed for Copilot
Watch this video to see how to reset your printer: 233 234 236.
The steps below are Wi-Fi only and do not perform a factory reset.
Microsoft's Copilot may provide alternate solutions.

  1. Turn the product on while you press and hold the Resume button for 10-20 seconds.
  2. The Attention light turns on. Release the Resume button.
  3. The Attention and Ready lights cycle while the product restores factory defaults.

Wi-Fi connection

Ideally, your Wi-Fi printer should connect to the modem or router. If your network has multiple boosters / repeaters, it is possible the printer may connect randomly to any of the units. The router needs to provide the same IP address on every connection. This rarely happens with random connects. An alternate Wi-Fi connection is Wi-Fi direct. Your laptop or smartphone prints directly to the printer and does not go through the router. Note that if you signed up for instant ink or internet printing your printer must also be online through the router. Do not call any phone number revealed in any video or site.

This video shows how to connect to the router: 234sdw
Wi-Fi Direct can be used to avoid configuring the router. Watch this: 234sdw
A simple connection to the router can be done by using the WPS pushbutton method. This is explained on page 14 in this User Manual.

Software

HP updates software periodically. Downloads shown below may be old. You should always visit the Software and Download page to look for new releases. You may need to select an operating system (OS) first. If windows 11 is missing then use 10. You can go as far back as Windows 7, 64bit to get missing drivers. After selecting the OS click the blue Open all button to view all downloads.

Full function printer drivers can be downloaded here: 232-237
Full function software for scanning can be downloaded here: 234sdw
You can find all of the software here. You should select the OS and then look for the phrase "Open All" and click that. 234sdw

Beemeer:

Thank you for all this information.  I'm digesting it.  Meanwhile I re-set printer, but now my computer cannot find it, does not recognize there is a printer in the room, it says "offline" i set it up for "find" and does not find it.  Even tells me to turn it on.  I moved my router to my office to be close to printer (about 6 ft), wi-fi blue light is flashing it does not "see it".  I'm about to reboot my computer and see if that refreshes it.  Will let you know

HP Recommended

If the wifi is flashing there is no connection to the router.

You can use Wi-Fi direct and avoid the router.

Beemer:  Good afternoon, I must thank you very much with all the information you sent.

This afternoon, after several attempts and nothing happened.  I got under the idea, somehow I erased the driver when I removed all printers to get a fresh start after re-setting the printer.....so I decided to download the driver.  So I did and in HP web page under "download" it suggested to  download their -HP EasyStart- for my printer.  I did it, and followed all easy steps and I got the printer working, I rebooted my computer after all this and it continued printing wireless.  So I'm good now, your videos and suggestions worked very well.  HP said this new HP EasyStart was released this year 2026 I believe on April

Thank you very much
