Hi @DBB3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear your HP OfficeJet Pro 8120e has a strong Wi‑Fi signal and the wireless light is solid blue; the printer is connected to the network. Intermittent printing can still happen due to network performance, router settings, app/driver issues, or printer status problems. Try these steps in order:

What to try:

Restart everything:

  • Turn off the printer and your computer/mobile device.

  • Restart the router.

  • Turn the printer and device back on.

  • Make sure your device is connected to the same Wi‑Fi network as the printer.

Check internet/network performance:

  • Open a website and confirm the connection is stable.

  • If the network is slow or intermittent, restart the router.

  • Limit the number of devices actively streaming or heavily using the network.

Move the printer/router if needed:

  • Even with a strong signal, interference from walls, metal bookcases, and electronics can affect reliability.

  • Place the printer closer to the router or range extender if possible.

Disconnect any USB cable:

  • If a USB cable is connected, remove it. A USB connection can interfere with Wi‑Fi setup/connection behavior.

Print a Network Configuration Report or Wireless Network Test Report:

  • Review the report for connection issues or instructions.

  • If multiple nearby networks are using the same Wi‑Fi channel, router channel interference may be causing intermittent printing.

Use the HP app Diagnose & Fix:

  • Open the HP app on Windows or macOS.

  • Select your printer and run Diagnose & Fix.

  • Follow any recommended fixes.

Remove and re-add the printer in the HP app:

  • Remove the printer from the HP app/HP Smart.

  • Add it again while connected to the same network.

If the scanning or printing setup keeps failing:

  • Restore Wi‑Fi setup mode on the printer and set it up again in the HP app within 2 hours.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
