Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.
HP Recommended
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a 7740 all in one printer that was working fine. all of a sudden it can not print from network, wifi or USB. The printer sees the network, my computer sees the printer (but says it's off line). I can send things to the printer but the printer just sits there with the working circle and does nothing. I have tried the USB cable but get the same thing. I can however print the built in reports, well most of them. It will not print the network report.

I have unplugged it over night, I have restarted all the network equipment and printer, I have also done a factory reset.

Perform a cold reset on the printer and clear the print jobs.

I have checked all the ink, paper path, done a cold rest, a factory reset.

I have connected with the smart diagnostics tool and it says everything is good.

nothing is working. This printer worked great a day before all this happened. nothing on the network has changed. I'm just out of ideas.

Hi @RobLegg,

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 All-in-One printer was working fine but suddenly stopped printing from both network and USB connections, even though it’s detected. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Power Reset the Printer

With the printer powered on, unplug the power cord from the rear.

Wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).

Turn it on and wait for the printer to become idle and silent before testing again.

Clear All Pending Print Jobs

On your computer, open the Control Panel → Devices and Printers.

Right-click your HP 7740 printer → select See what’s printing → then Cancel All Documents.

Once cleared, try printing a simple test page again.

Reinstall the Printer Driver

Remove the existing printer from Devices and Printers.

Disconnect the USB cable if connected.

Download and reinstall the latest Full Feature Software and Driver for your model from support.hp.com.

Reconnect the printer via USB or Wi-Fi when prompted during installation.

Check Printer Status in Windows

Go to Control Panel → Devices and Printers.

Make sure the printer is set as Default and that Use Printer Offline is not checked.

If the printer shows “Offline,” right-click and select Use Printer Online.

Verify Network Connection on the Printer

From the printer’s control panel, open Network Setup → Wireless Settings → Print Wireless Test Report.

If the report does not print, the printer’s wireless module might be unresponsive — proceed to the next step.

Update Printer Firmware

If you can access HP Smart or the printer’s Embedded Web Server (by typing its IP address in a browser), check for a firmware update under Web Services or Printer Maintenance.

Updating the firmware can resolve communication or software faults that block printing.

I hope this helps.
