HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer

My printer is in an error state which I cannot reset.  I've changed ink cartridges which has not allowed me to reset the system.  As a result I can't connect to my modem.

Hi @1954_Mike,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Officejet Pro 8620 is in an error state and you're having trouble resetting it, there are several steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue. Here's a general guide to help you resolve common printer problems.

  • Check for Paper Jams: Make sure there are no paper jams or obstructions in the printer. Open the printer cover and check all areas for any bits of paper or foreign objects.
  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. Turn the printer on and check if the error persists.
  • Update or Reinstall Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest drivers for your printer installed on your computer. You can visit the HP website to download and install the latest drivers.
  • Check Ink Cartridges: Verify that the ink cartridges are correctly installed and are not empty. Sometimes, even new cartridges may be faulty, so try replacing them with another set or reinstalling them.
  • Reset the Printer: To perform a hard reset, turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 5 minutes. Plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes clear temporary errors.
  • Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. You can find firmware updates on the HP website.
  • Clear Print Queue: Clear the print queue on your computer. Sometimes, a stuck print job can cause communication issues with the printer.
  • Check for Network Issues: If you're having trouble connecting to your modem, check your network connection. Make sure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer. Restart your router/modem if necessary.
  • Factory Reset: As a last resort, you can perform a factory reset on your printer. Keep in mind that this will erase all settings on the printer. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
