@SarahT0115, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since your HP DeskJet 2800e printer is connected to Wi-Fi and shows as connected in the HP app but appears offline on your devices, here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:
Restart Everything
- Power cycle the printer: Turn it off, unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Restart the router: Turn off your Wi-Fi router for 10-15 seconds and turn it back on.
- Restart your computer and devices: This refreshes network connections.
Check Network Connection
- Verify IP Address: On the printer, print a Network Configuration Page (check the manual for your model’s button combination).
- On a Windows PC, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click the printer, select Printer Properties > Ports, and confirm the correct IP address is being used.
- If the IP address is 169.x.x.x, the printer is not getting a valid IP from the router. Reset the network and reconnect.
Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi
- Press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer until the light blinks.
- Open the HP Smart app, go to Add Printer, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Check Printer Status in Windows
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click the printer name, select See what’s printing.
- Click Printer (top menu) and ensure:
- Use Printer Offline is unchecked.
- Pause Printing is unchecked.
Disable SNMP (Windows)
- Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your printer, select Printer Properties.
- Go to the Ports tab, find the checked port.
- Click Configure Port, uncheck SNMP Status Enabled, and click OK.
Assign a Static IP to the Printer
- Access your router settings and assign a static IP to the printer based on the IP address found in step 2.
- Then, update the printer’s IP in Windows:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your printer, select Printer Properties.
- Select the Ports tab, then Add Port > Standard TCP/IP Port.
- Enter the new static IP and complete the setup.
Reset the Printer
- If nothing works, perform a factory reset on the printer:
- Hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons together for about 5 seconds until the power light blinks.
- Reconnect the printer using the HP Smart app.
