@Annoyed200011, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
I understand you're having trouble connecting to your HP Smart Tank 515 using Wi-Fi Direct, even though you're entering the correct password. Let's walk through the steps to resolve this issue.
Verify the Wi-Fi Direct Password
Make sure you're using the correct and current Wi-Fi Direct password. Here's how to check it:
- On the printer control panel, press the Wi-Fi Direct button (or the Information button if available).
- This will print a Network Configuration Page or Wi-Fi Direct Info Page.
- Look for the Wi-Fi Direct Name (SSID) and Password on that page.

Reset Wi-Fi Direct Settings (if needed)
If the password still doesn’t work, try resetting the Wi-Fi Direct settings:
- On the printer, press and hold the Wi-Fi Direct button for about 3 seconds until the light blinks.
- This will reset the Wi-Fi Direct settings and generate a new password.
- Print the info page again to get the updated password.
Connect Using Wi-Fi Direct
On your phone or PC:
- Go to Wi-Fi settings.
- Look for the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct name (e.g., DIRECT-xx-HP Smart Tank 515).
- Tap to connect and enter the exact password from the info page.
- If prompted, confirm the connection on the printer panel.
Use HP Smart App (Optional)
You can also connect and manage the printer using the HP Smart app: HP Smart
Additional Tips
- Ensure Wi-Fi Direct is enabled on the printer.
- Avoid using old saved passwords, forget the network and reconnect.
- If you're using a mobile device, toggle Airplane Mode ON and OFF before reconnecting.
I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.
Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
