We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8133 All-In-One

The printer keeps going offline, even when it's placed right next to the router. Sometimes it shows that it is online and then goes off. I have tried everything - disconnecting the router, the printer and the computer and restarting the whole system, and then it works for a while and goes offline again. There is no problem with the Internet in my house Speed Check reveals download speeds of close to 400 and upload speeds of around 150 all over the house.

Hi @dgzinder,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is when your printer keeps going offline, even with strong internet and proximity to the router. This is a common issue with network printers, and here’s how we recommend fixing it:

Why It Happens

  • Dynamic IP address changes: Your router assigns a new IP, and the computer can’t find the printer.
  • Sleep mode or power-saving: The printer goes into deep sleep and doesn’t wake properly.
  • Driver or protocol mismatch: Windows/macOS may default to WSD or AirPrint instead of the HP driver.
  • Firewall or security software is blocking HP Smart communication.

Recommended Fix Steps

1. Assign a Static IP

  • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer (Setup → Reports → Network Configuration).
  • Note the current IP address.
  • Enter that IP in a browser to access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  • Go to Network → Advanced Settings → IP Settings.
  • Set a Manual IP (same as current or slightly higher in range).
  • This prevents the printer from “disappearing” when the router changes IPs.

2. Remove & Re-Add Printer Using HP Driver

3. Update Firmware

  • From HP Smart app → Printer Settings → Advanced Settings → Firmware Update.
  • Firmware updates often fix offline and sleep issues.

4. Disable Sleep Mode

  • On the printer:
    • Setup → Preferences → Sleep Mode → Off or Max Delay.

5. Check Firewall Settings

  • Allow HP Smart and printer ports through your firewall.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
