Hi @MalcolmF1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Dealing with a printer that frequently goes offline can indeed be frustrating. There are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve this issue.
Check Connection and Cables:
- Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your computer or network. If it's connected via USB, make sure the cable is securely plugged in at both ends. If it's a wireless connection, verify that the printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network.
Restart Devices:
- Sometimes, simply restarting your printer, computer, and router (if applicable) can resolve connectivity issues. Turn off each device, wait a few seconds, and then turn them back on in the following order: router, printer, computer.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP Envy printer. Firmware updates can often fix bugs and improve connectivity.
Check Printer Settings:
- On your computer, navigate to the Control Panel or System Preferences (depending on your operating system), find the Printers section, and make sure your HP Envy printer is set as the default printer.
Check Printer Status:
- Look at the printer’s display panel or LCD screen for any error messages. Sometimes, resolving an error on the printer itself can bring it back online.
Driver Updates:
- Ensure that you have the latest drivers installed for your printer. Drivers can become outdated and may cause issues with connectivity. You can download the latest drivers from the HP website.

Check Power Saving Settings:
- Some printers have power-saving modes that might turn the printer off or put it to sleep when not in use. Check your printer's manual or settings menu to adjust these options if necessary.
Printer Troubleshooter:
- Many operating systems have built-in printer troubleshooters that can automatically identify and fix common printer problems. Run the troubleshooter to see if it detects any issues.
Check for Interference:
- If your printer is wireless, interference from other devices or even physical obstacles between the printer and the router can affect connectivity. Try moving the printer closer to your Wi-Fi router.
Reset Printer Network Settings (Wireless Printers):
- If your printer is wireless, you might need to reset its network settings and reconnect it to your Wi-Fi network as if setting it up for the first time.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
