Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.
HP Recommended

My printer has always been working well over wifi, but since a month or so it loses its connection after a day or so. I then have to switch off the printer and on again. Then it is working, but next day it has no connection again. I have restarted the printer, the router, accesspoints. Tried 2.4GHz and 5 GHz, fixed IP. I have even reset my printer to factory default. Nothing helps. HP smart app cannot find the printer. But when I have restarted the printer, HP smart app cannot find a problem.

Hi @Chemist1977,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how frustrating this is. Your printer works perfectly after a restart, but then goes silent the next day. This behavior usually points to sleep mode or network lease issues rather than a hardware fault. Here’s how to fix it:

Why It Happens

  • HP printers often enter Deep Sleep or Energy Saver mode and fail to wake properly.
  • DHCP lease expiration can cause the printer to lose its IP address.
  • HP Smart relies on the printer being online, so when the printer drops off the network, it disappears.

Step-by-Step Fix

1. Assign a Static IP (Even if You Tried Before)

  • On the printer:
Setup → Network Settings → Advanced Settings → IP Settings → Manual
  • Use an IP outside your router’s DHCP range (e.g., 192.168.1.250).
  • Save and restart the printer.

2. Disable Auto Power Off

  • On the printer:
Setup → Preferences → Auto Power Off → Off
  • Also, check Sleep Mode and set it to a longer duration or disable it if possible.

3. Update Printer Firmware

4. Router Settings

  • Enable DHCP Reservation for the printer’s MAC address.
  • Disable AP Isolation or Client Isolation if using access points.

5. HP App

  • Remove the printer from the HP app and re-add it using the new static IP.
  • Ensure Local Network Access is enabled in iOS/Android settings.

Thanks for your suggestions.
I have entered a fixed IP address in the printer. I assigned the same IP address in the router for the printer, just to be sure.
Auto power off cannot be disabled, but I changed the sleep mode tintje longest time.
Firmware is th latest version

Local network access is ok. I can print from my iPhone as long as the printer is online.
Client isolation is disabled in my WiFi.

unfortunately, the problem is still there. Printer works for a while but after a day it loses its connection. In the router logging I can see a sudden stop in network activity.
