Hi @AFrisco17,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer shows as offline despite diagnostics indicating it is fixed, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve this issue:
1. Check Printer Status
- Restart Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for 30 seconds, and then turn it back on.
- Check Connection: Ensure the printer is properly connected to the WiFi network. You can print a Network Configuration Page from the printer settings to verify the connection.
- Set as Default Printer: Ensure the HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 is set as the default printer on your Windows 11 computer. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners and click on the HP OfficeJet Pro 6978, then select Set as default.
2. Restart Print Spooler Service
- Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Scroll down to find Print Spooler.
- Right-click Print Spooler, then click Restart.
3. Update or Reinstall Printer Driver Software and Drivers for HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer
- Update Driver: Go to Device Manager by right-clicking the Start button and selecting it. Expand Printers, right-click on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978, and select Update driver.
- Reinstall Driver:
- Uninstall the existing driver: Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners, click on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978, and select Remove device.
- Download the latest driver from the HP support website and install it.
4. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor. This tool can help diagnose and resolve printing issues.
5. Assign a Static IP Address to the Printer
- Sometimes, assigning a static IP address to the printer can resolve connectivity issues.
- Access your printer's settings via its control panel.
- Navigate to Network or Wireless Settings.
- Find IP Address Configuration and set it to Manual.
- Assign a static IP address within the range of your network.
6. Disable SNMP Status
- Sometimes SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) can cause offline issues.
- Go to Devices and Printers in the Control Panel.
- Right-click on your HP printer and select Printer properties.
- Click on the Ports tab.
- Click Configure Port.
- Uncheck SNMP Status Enabled and click OK.
7. Network Reset
- Perform a network reset on your printer and reconnect it to your WiFi network:
- On the printer's control panel, go to Settings > Network Settings > Restore Network Defaults.
- Reconnect the printer to your WiFi network using the printer’s setup process.
