Hi @AFrisco17,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer shows as offline despite diagnostics indicating it is fixed, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve this issue:

1. Check Printer Status

  • Restart Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for 30 seconds, and then turn it back on.
  • Check Connection: Ensure the printer is properly connected to the WiFi network. You can print a Network Configuration Page from the printer settings to verify the connection.
  • Set as Default Printer: Ensure the HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 is set as the default printer on your Windows 11 computer. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners and click on the HP OfficeJet Pro 6978, then select Set as default.

2. Restart Print Spooler Service

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Scroll down to find Print Spooler.
  • Right-click Print Spooler, then click Restart.

3. Update or Reinstall Printer Driver Software and Drivers for HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer

  • Update Driver: Go to Device Manager by right-clicking the Start button and selecting it. Expand Printers, right-click on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978, and select Update driver.
  • Reinstall Driver:
    • Uninstall the existing driver: Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners, click on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978, and select Remove device.
    • Download the latest driver from the HP support website and install it.

4. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor. This tool can help diagnose and resolve printing issues.

5. Assign a Static IP Address to the Printer

  • Sometimes, assigning a static IP address to the printer can resolve connectivity issues.
    • Access your printer's settings via its control panel.
    • Navigate to Network or Wireless Settings.
    • Find IP Address Configuration and set it to Manual.
    • Assign a static IP address within the range of your network.

6. Disable SNMP Status

  • Sometimes SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) can cause offline issues.
    • Go to Devices and Printers in the Control Panel.
    • Right-click on your HP printer and select Printer properties.
    • Click on the Ports tab.
    • Click Configure Port.
    • Uncheck SNMP Status Enabled and click OK.

7. Network Reset

  • Perform a network reset on your printer and reconnect it to your WiFi network:
    • On the printer's control panel, go to Settings > Network Settings > Restore Network Defaults.
    • Reconnect the printer to your WiFi network using the printer’s setup process.
