Hp tango X

Blink with ( ! ) Icon

My HP Tango X printer is stuck in WiFi setup mode with a blinking light and continuously broadcasts a DIRECT-xx-HP Tango network, but I do not have the WiFi Direct password. The HP Smart app cannot find the printer locally, yet it still shows recent status updates from the cloud, meaning the printer is desynchronized between local WiFi and the HP cloud account. I am unable to reconnect it to my network or complete setup.

Hi @Jmg28,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Your HP Tango X is in setup mode, broadcasting the DIRECT-xx-HP Tango network, and is unable to reconnect to your usual Wi‑Fi. This happens when the printer's network settings are out of sync with the HP Smart app and cloud. Here’s how to get it back on track using these steps:

1. Reset Network Settings & Return to Setup Mode

Since it’s stuck in a setup loop, let’s reset it cleanly:

  1. Press and hold the rear Wi‑Fi button for 5 seconds until the edge light starts rotating blue.
  2. The printer will reset its network and enter setup mode for two hours, broadcasting the DIRECT-xx–HP Tango network, ready to be paired again.

2. Reconnect Using HP App

With the printer now in setup mode:

  1. On your phone or computer, open the Wi‑Fi settings and connect to the DIRECT-xx-HP Tango network.
  2. Launch the HP app → select Add Printer → choose Set Up a New Printer.
  3. The app will detect the printer in setup mode and guide you to connect it to your home Wi‑Fi.

3. Find or Reset Wi‑Fi Direct Password (If Needed)

If a password is requested to join DIRECT-xx:

  1. Press the Information (i) button: one tap prints the Printer Information Report.
  2. That page shows your Wi‑Fi Direct name and password (the default is often 12345678).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
