Why do I get a message saying update browser on the preview, but no rendering of what I want to print with hp printer 5258 from my iPhone? I’m not tech savvy. Apple checked my phone & it has Safari. I can still print with the drop down choice that comes with iPhone SE 2022, but I can’t reconfigure as w/hp smart app.

Hi @Flummoxed-I-am,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The message "Update browser" on your HP Printer 5258 when trying to preview prints from your iPhone suggests that there might be an issue with how the printer or app is communicating with your device, or it could be a compatibility issue with the browser or app you're using. Here are some steps to resolve the issue:

**1. Check for Firmware and Software Updates

Update Printer Firmware:

  • HP Support Website: Visit the HP Support website and search for your HP Printer 5258 model.
  • Download Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available and follow the instructions to update your printer's firmware.

Update HP Smart App:

  • App Store: Go to the App Store on your iPhone and check for updates to the HP Smart app.
  • Update if Available: Install any available updates.

**2. Ensure HP Smart App is Set Up Correctly

Reconfigure HP Smart App:

  • Open HP Smart App: Open the HP Smart app on your iPhone.
  • Add Printer: If the printer isn't already added, tap the plus (+) sign to add your HP Printer 5258.
  • Follow Setup Instructions: Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
  • Open App Settings: In the HP Smart app, go to the settings for your printer.
  • Verify Settings: Make sure all settings are configured correctly for printing and scanning.

**3. Check Browser Compatibility:

  • Verify Default Browser: Ensure that Safari is set as your default browser on your iPhone.
  • Update iOS: Make sure your iPhone's operating system (iOS) is up to date. Sometimes, an update can resolve browser compatibility issues.

**4. Clear Cache and Reboot

  • Power Off: Turn off your iPhone by holding down the power button and sliding to power off.Power On: Wait a few seconds and turn it back on.Open Settings: Go to Settings on your iPhone.
  • Select Safari: Scroll down and select Safari.Clear History and Website Data: Tap "Clear History and Website Data."

**5. Use AirPrint:

  • Open Document or Photo: Open the document or photo you want to print on your iPhone.
  • Select Print: Tap the share icon (a square with an upward arrow) and select Print.
  • Choose Printer: Ensure your HP Printer 5258 is selected. If it’s not listed, make sure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone.

**6. Check Printer Network Connection

  1. Verify Network Connection:
    • Printer Display: Check the printer’s display to ensure it is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
    • Reconnect if Needed: If the network connection is lost, reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network using the printer’s control panel.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
