The printer only connects to HP Wi-Fi, which means I can’t print because I am only paying for one Wi-Fi address. Does anyone know how I can make it connect to my Wi-Fi network?

Hi @Suewon

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP DeskJet 4255e is currently connected to HP's Wi-Fi Direct network, which allows you to print directly from a device to the printer without a traditional Wi-Fi connection to your home network. However, for normal printing (via your Wi-Fi network), you'll need to connect the printer to your home Wi-Fi network instead.

Here are the steps to reconnect your printer to your home Wi-Fi network:

1. Reset the Printer's Wireless Settings

To start fresh, you might want to reset the wireless settings on the printer to remove any previous Wi-Fi Direct or other network configurations.

Steps:

  1. Turn on the printer if it’s not already on.
  2. On the printer's control panel, press and hold the Wi-Fi button (the button that looks like a wireless signal, usually located near the display) and the Power button at the same time.
  3. Hold the buttons for about 5 seconds until the wireless light starts blinking.
    • This will reset the printer’s wireless connection settings.
  4. The printer will now be ready to connect to your home Wi-Fi network.

2. Connect the Printer to Your Wi-Fi Network

Now that the wireless settings are reset, follow these steps to connect the printer to your home Wi-Fi network:

Steps:

  1. Ensure your Wi-Fi is working and you have the correct network name (SSID) and password for your home Wi-Fi.
  2. Press the Wi-Fi button on the printer’s control panel (the wireless icon).
    • The Wi-Fi light will start blinking to indicate the printer is in Wi-Fi setup mode.
  3. On the printer’s control panel, select "Wireless Setup Wizard" (or similar option depending on the model). This will search for available Wi-Fi networks.
  4. The printer will display a list of available networks. Select your Wi-Fi network (SSID) from the list.
  5. Enter your Wi-Fi password when prompted. Ensure you enter it correctly (case-sensitive).
  6. Once the printer successfully connects to the Wi-Fi, the wireless light should become solid, indicating that the printer is connected to your network.

3. Complete the Setup on Your Computer or Mobile Device

After the printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network, you may need to add it to your computer or mobile device:

On Windows:

  1. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Click Add a printer or scanner.
  3. Select your HP DeskJet 4255e from the list and follow the prompts to complete the installation.

4. Test the Connection

Once connected, print a test page or a simple document from your computer or mobile device to ensure the printer is correctly connected to your Wi-Fi network.

If You're Still Having Issues:

  • Check your Wi-Fi network: Make sure your Wi-Fi network is working correctly, and ensure that the 2.4 GHz band is enabled if your printer is struggling to connect (since many printers, including the HP DeskJet 4255e, prefer the 2.4 GHz band over the 5 GHz band).
  • Try the WPS Method (if your router supports WPS):
    • If your router supports Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS), you can try connecting the printer through WPS by pressing the WPS button on your router and then pressing the WPS button on your printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
