For a time, I would receive a pop up on my phone stating that the printer no longer accepts encrypted print jobs, would I like to continue and after accepting it would still send the job to printer. I no longer get that option and I am unable to print from my phone through majority of apps. I have a Samsung android phone running version 14; last update was in May 2024. Printer is a Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw. This issue started prior to the update. I have created a new printer certificate, no change. I would really love to be able to print from my phone again, any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi @mountainlady21,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw no longer accepting encrypted print jobs from your Samsung Android phone, here are a few steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:
Step 1: Verify Printer and Firmware Settings
Check Printer Firmware:
- Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for firmware updates on the HP support website or through the printer's control panel.
Reset Printer Network Settings:
- On the printer, go to Network Settings and perform a reset. Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network afterward.
Step 2: Reconfigure Mobile Printing Settings
HP Smart App:
- Ensure you are using the latest version of the HP Smart app on your phone.
- Open the HP Smart app, remove the printer if it is already added, and re-add it.
Printer Settings:
- Access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) by entering the printer’s IP address into a web browser on your computer.
- Navigate to Security or Network Settings and disable Encrypted Print Job if it is enabled.
Step 3: Mobile Device Configuration
Clear App Cache:
- Go to Settings > Apps > HP Smart (or the printing app you use) > Storage > Clear Cache.
Remove and Reinstall Printer:
- Remove the printer from your phone’s list of printers.
- Re-add the printer through the HP Smart app or the Android printing settings.
Step 4: Check Certificate Configuration
- Create a New Certificate:
- If you created a new printer certificate, ensure it is properly installed and recognized by the printer.
- Verify that the certificate is correctly set up by navigating to the Security settings on the printer’s EWS.
Step 5: Test with Different Applications
- Print from Various Apps:
- Test printing from different apps to see if the issue is specific to certain applications.
Step 6: Alternative Printing Methods
Use Direct Wi-Fi Printing:
- Use Wi-Fi Direct if available on your printer and phone. This allows direct communication between your devices, bypassing the need for network encryption settings.
Print via Email:
- Some HP printers support printing via email. You can send an email with the document to the printer’s email address.
