I had problems with my printer each time I wanted to print the printer would not show up on the HP smart app, or be asleep or offline. It will say unable to find the printer on the app. I have multiple Wifi extenders around my home and realize that my devices were all connected to the Wifi extenders even my Desktop PC and my cell phones except for the HP printer. The printer is linked to one Wifi provider network the main router at my home, not the Wifi extenders. When I decided to switch all the device's Wifi to the Wifi link to the printer the printer started to work with no problem. The printer and the devices have to be on the same Wifi network if not the printer won't function at all. It won't recognize the Wifi that is not connected to. The second solution that also worked for me was going to the HP Print smart app when you go to print and switching the printer name to the one name on the list to see which one works I have one that says the name of the printer and model and another name that says HP Smart printer. I switch names to see if is reading the wrong name and not communicating and when I switch the printer name on the app it starts to work. I hope this solution can help you as well.

Hi @Iceprincess4175,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've found a couple of effective solutions to address the connectivity issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer. Connectivity problems can indeed be frustrating, but your troubleshooting steps are helpful. To summarize the solutions you've mentioned.
Ensure All Devices are on the Same Wi-Fi Network:
- Make sure that all your devices, including the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer, are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. In your case, you mentioned that the printer is linked to the main router, so ensure that your other devices are also connected to this main network rather than any extenders.
Check Printer Name in HP Smart App:
- When using the HP Smart app to print, verify that the correct printer name is selected. You noticed two names in the list, one with the name of the printer and model, and another with "HP Smart printer." Switching between these names in the app helped resolve communication issues.
These steps are practical and align with common solutions for printer connectivity problems. Users encountering similar issues with their HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 or other printers may find your experience and solutions beneficial. If problems persist, checking for firmware updates for the printer or app, and ensuring the devices are within the effective range of the Wi-Fi network, are additional steps to consider.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
