Hi @Vivsmart,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue of your HP ENVY 6420e All-In-One Printer not connecting to the internet despite showing a steady Wi-Fi signal, you can follow these troubleshooting steps:
1. Restart Devices
- Restart Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Restart Mobile Hotspot: Turn off your mobile hotspot, wait for a few seconds, then turn it back on.
- Restart Phone: Restart the device that is providing the hotspot.
2. Check Printer and Hotspot Settings
- Hotspot SSID and Password: Ensure that the SSID (network name) and password for your hotspot are correct. Re-enter them if necessary.
- Wi-Fi Band: Verify that your hotspot is broadcasting on the 2.4 GHz band, as many printers, including the HP ENVY 6420e, may not support the 5 GHz band.
3. Network Settings on Printer
- Reconnect to Hotspot: On the printer, go to the Wi-Fi settings and disconnect from the current network. Then, reconnect to your mobile hotspot, ensuring you enter the correct password.
- Manual IP Address: Try setting a manual IP address for the printer. This can be done via the printer’s control panel or through the HP Smart app.
4. Update Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates via the printer's control panel or the HP Smart app.
5. HP Smart App Troubleshooting
- Reinstall HP Smart App: Sometimes, uninstalling and reinstalling the HP Smart app can resolve connectivity issues.
- App Permissions: Ensure that the HP Smart app has all necessary permissions on your Android device, including location access which can affect Wi-Fi connectivity.
6. Reset Network Settings
- Printer Network Reset: On the printer, go to Network Settings and select the option to restore network defaults. After the reset, reconnect to the mobile hotspot.
7. Check for Interference
- Distance and Obstructions: Make sure the printer and the device providing the hotspot are within close range and there are minimal obstructions between them.
- Other Devices: Disconnect other devices from the hotspot to ensure there’s enough bandwidth for the printer to connect.
8. Additional Troubleshooting
- IP Address Conflict: Check for IP address conflicts on your network. Assigning a static IP address to your printer might help.
- Router Settings: If possible, access the settings of the device providing the hotspot and ensure there are no restrictions or settings that might block the printer’s access.
9. Factory Reset
- Printer Factory Reset: As a last resort, perform a factory reset on the printer. This will reset all settings and might resolve any persistent issues. Refer to the printer manual for instructions on performing a factory reset.
Refer to this document: HP ENVY 6420e All-in-One Printer User manual
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
