How to change my hp network name so the printer connects to a new modem

Hi @Lost1231

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for explaining the situation so clearly—and I’m genuinely sorry your printer isn’t connecting to Wi-Fi after switching to a new modem.

Let’s walk through a focused sequence to help your HP printer forget the old network and connect to the new one.

Step-by-Step: Connect HP Printer to New Wi-Fi Network

1. Reset Network Settings on the Printer

  • On the printer control panel, press the Wireless button or icon.
  • Go to Settings > Restore Network Settings.
  • Confirm the reset.

This clears the previous network and prepares the printer for a fresh connection.

2. Reconnect Using the HP App

  • Open the HP App on your Windows PC or mobile device.
  • Select your printer > Settings > Network Setup.
  • Choose Wi-Fi Setup > Reconnect to Wi-Fi.
  • Follow the prompts to select your new network name (SSID) and enter the password.

The app guides the printer through secure pairing with your new modem.

3. Use Wi-Fi Setup Mode (If Printer Has No Display)

  • Press and hold the Wireless button and Cancel button together for 5 seconds.
  • Wait for the wireless light to start blinking.

This puts the printer into setup mode, allowing the HP App to detect and configure it.

4. Connect via WPS (Optional)

  • On your modem/router, press the WPS button.
  • Within 2 minutes, press the Wireless button on the printer.

This method connects the printer without needing to enter a password.

5. Confirm Connection

  • In the HP App, go to Printer Settings > Network Summary.
  • Check that the printer shows as Connected with an IP address.

You can also print a Network Configuration Page from the control panel or HP App.

Let me know how the printer responds after resetting and reconnecting. If needed, I can guide you through assigning a static IP or checking firewall settings.

You're doing everything right—this sequence should help restore smooth wireless printing.
