Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

I purchased a HP deskjet 4100 e, and previously connected online, however, it will not print now, and it keeps saying the printer is offline. I have moved my printer closer to the router, reset the printer, and still cannot get re-connected.

Hi @AngelaB40

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It looks like you're looking for a more thorough resolution to your HP Smart Tank 7305's Wi-Fi connectivity issue. Let's continue from where we left off and dig deeper into more steps to resolve the problem.

4. Dual-Band Network Conflict (2.4 GHz vs. 5 GHz)

Some printers, especially those like the HP Smart Tank 7305, work better on 2.4 GHz networks because they offer longer range and better penetration through walls. The 5 GHz band, while faster, has a shorter range and can sometimes cause connection issues for printers.

  • Ensure 2.4 GHz is enabled on your router.
    • Check your router settings and make sure 2.4 GHz is active. If possible, disable the 5 GHz band temporarily to see if the printer has a more stable connection on 2.4 GHz.
  • Wi-Fi Band Steering: If your router supports band steering (automatically moving devices between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), try disabling this feature to see if it stabilizes the connection.

5. Assign a Static IP Address to the Printer

If your printer is receiving a dynamic IP address from the router (DHCP), sometimes conflicts can cause it to drop off the network or disconnect intermittently.

  • Assign a Static IP:
    • In your router’s settings, find the DHCP reservation or Static IP assignment section.
    • Reserve an IP address for your printer that is outside the DHCP pool (e.g., if your router assigns IPs from 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.199, assign the printer something like 192.168.1.50).
    • On the printer, manually configure the IP address using the Embedded Web Server (EWS) or printer control panel.

This ensures the printer always gets the same IP address, which can help avoid network conflicts.

6. Reduce Wireless Interference

Wireless interference can be a significant issue, especially in homes with multiple devices using the same frequency.

  • Minimize interference:
    • Place your printer away from large metal objects or electronic devices that could interfere with the signal (microwaves, baby monitors, cordless phones, etc.).
    • Ensure the router is not placed near other heavy electronic equipment.

7. Power Cycle the Router and Printer

Sometimes, routers and printers can experience temporary issues that a simple power cycle can resolve. This can clear up minor connectivity problems.

  • Power cycle:
    1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
    2. Turn off the router, wait for 30 seconds, then turn it back on.
    3. Turn the printer back on and see if it reconnects to the Wi-Fi.

8. Check for Overheating

Another issue that may cause Wi-Fi to drop is overheating in the printer or router.

  • Ensure proper ventilation: Make sure the printer is in a well-ventilated space and that it's not exposed to heat sources that could cause it to overheat and lose Wi-Fi connectivity

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
