HP Envy 5540
macOS 10.15 Catalina

After 5 years of working perfectly my HP Envy 5540 printer is no longer printing via my iMac.   When I try I get messages like "Printing  page 1, 31% complete" and then it I get "The printer is not responding".  Just spent 2 hours on WhatApp to HP who couldn't get it working and eventually suggested I reset the printer on the iMac.  So I removed it, but it doesn't allow me to reinstall it. I get the message "Unable to verify the printer on your network" .     The printer does work via my iPhone via the HP Smart app, but can't get it working (or now even installed) on the iMac.    HP guy via WhatsApp suggested "my mac is not connected with the same network".  It looks the same network name to me, but maybe there are other matters?   He couldn't solve it.     It's worked fine for 5 years and now it's not.    Can any one help please?

I have a very similar issue and according to my IT brother it's likely to be a router problem. We have a smart hub operating dual 2.4ghz and 5ghz and the printer only works if I log into the router account online and switch off the 5ghz and force the mac and printer to the same frequency of 2.4ghz. It might be worth having a look at these settings and seeing if this works. It is very frustrating and I'm waiting for a response to my connection problems which I've just posted here today. Good luck!

Thanks for your response.  It might be the router.   I do have a smart hub (via BT).  The smart hub has worked fine with the printer for 12 months.  The smart function is switched off by the way.   I need the 5GHz frequency so switching that off is not a workable solution sadly.  Good  luck in finding a solution to your issue.   Has anybody else out there got any solutions?
