OfficeJet 5255 stopped working just recently. Printer shows connection to wifi and router is working. When I press command P, an error pops up in the tool bar saying, "printer not responding" and just cycles back and forth.

Hi  @Cholla51,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand your concern to hear about  your OfficeJet 5255 has suddenly stopped responding, especially when everything looks connected on Wi‑Fi. Let’s work through this together and get you printing again.

could you kindly confirm:

  • Are you using a Windows PC, Mac, or another device to send the print command?
  • Does the error appear only when printing, or do scans/copy functions also fail?

Here are a few  steps you can try :

1.Check printer status on your computer

On Windows: Go to Settings → Devices → Printers & scanners. Make sure the OfficeJet 5255 is set as the default printer and shows “Ready.”

On Mac: Go to System Preferences → Printers & Scanners and check the printer status.

2.Run HP App  (Windows only)

This  tool automatically diagnoses and fixes common printing issues.

3.Re‑add the printer

Remove the printer from your device’s printer list, then add it back using the Wi‑Fi connection.

4.Check IP address

On the printer’s control panel, print a network configuration page. Confirm the IP address matches what your computer sees when adding the printer.

I hope this helps.
