Hi @Cece1077

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing the details—I'm really sorry you're facing this frustrating offline issue with your HP OfficeJet 3830. It’s clear you’ve already done some testing, and I appreciate your effort in identifying that unplugging the router temporarily restores printing. That gives us a strong clue: the printer is likely struggling to connect due to a router encryption setting that it can't interpret.

Here’s a focused path to resolve this:

Step-by-step actions to fix “Offline due to unsupported encryption”

1. Check router’s Wi-Fi security settings
Log into your router’s admin page (usually via a browser at 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1)

  • Navigate to Wireless Settings > Security
  • If the encryption type is set to WPA3, change it to WPA2-PSK (AES)
  • Save changes and restart both the router and printer
Older printers like the OfficeJet 3830 may not support WPA3, which causes connection failures.

2. Reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard
  • Select your network and enter the password
  • Wait for the connection confirmation

3. Run the Diagnose & Fix tool
This tool checks for connectivity conflicts and resets offline status.
Download it here: Diagnose & Fix – HP Support

4. Use the HP App to print
Since you’ve had success printing through the HP App, continue using it for sensitive or encrypted documents.
Download or open the HP App here:
HP App – HP Support

5. Assign a static IP to the printer (optional)
This can help maintain a stable connection:

  • On the printer, go to Settings > Network Setup > Advanced Settings > IP Settings
  • Set to Manual and assign an IP like 192.168.1.250
  • Update the printer port in Windows to match this IP via Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Printer Properties > Ports

Let me know how the printer responds after adjusting the router’s encryption. You’re on the right track, and I’ll be here to guide you further if needed.
