@carolynttt, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding How to Fix an HP Printer That is Offline!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If your HP printer is displaying an offline status and not responding, there are several steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
Basic Steps for Windows:
Run Diagnose and Fix:
- Download and install the HP Smart App from the Microsoft Store if you haven't already.
- Launch the app, click the Diagnose and Fix icon on the home page, and follow the instructions to troubleshoot the issue.
Set the Default Printer:
- Search for and open "Printers & scanners" from the taskbar.
- Ensure the "Let Windows manage my default printer" option is toggled off.
- Select your HP printer from the list and click "Set as default."
Restart Devices:
- Turn off and reboot your printer, computer, and router (if applicable).
Check Connections:
- Confirm Wi-Fi or Ethernet connections are correct. Ensure the printer is connected to the same network as your device.
- If you are using a USB connection, ensure the cable is not damaged and is connected directly to your computer.
Advanced Troubleshooting:
Update Printer Firmware:
- Regularly update your printer firmware using the HP Smart app or directly from the HP website.
Remove and Re-add Printer:
- Remove the printer from your computer's devices list and re-add it using "Printers & scanners" settings.
Create a New Printer TCP/IP Port:
- You can add a new printer port using your printer’s IP address through control panel settings.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
