I had my equipment changed out and now my printer does not connect to my phone or laptop. It’s asking for a printer password. I don’t know what it is. The password for my WiFi does not work. Neither does my password from my old equipment.

Hi @JGR58,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you have changed the router and it's not connecting to the printer and asking for the password. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To assist you better:

  • How far is the printer located from the WiFi router?
  • Do you have a dual-band router?
  • If you have a dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.

Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug the power cord into the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till the warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle
  •
