Hi @Galloway1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry to hear that you've forgotten the password for your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281FDW, you can typically regain access by following these steps.

Locate the Default PIN:

  • Open the cartridge access door on the printer.
  • Look for a label inside the access door where the printer's default PIN should be displayed.

Use the Default PIN

  • Try using this PIN as your password when prompted for access on the printer control panel.

Reset or Change Password:

  • If the default PIN doesn't work or you wish to change it, you may need to reset the password settings using the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS) if set to customize by an administrator. Refer the HP Manual for more details on resetting passwords.

Connect to New Wi-Fi Network

  1. Use Wireless Setup Wizard:
    • From the home screen on the printer’s control panel, touch the Wireless icon.
    • Select Settings.
    • Touch Wireless Setup Wizard.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your printer to your new Wi-Fi network by entering the Wi-Fi password.

Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS):

  • Once connected to the network, find the printer’s IP address by printing a network configuration page.
  • Open a web browser on your computer and type the printer’s IP address into the address bar to open the EWS.

Set New Password:

  • Navigate to the Settings or Security tab within the EWS.
  • Locate the option to set an administrator password and follow the prompts to create a new password.

Hope this help, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!
