Hello,

I am trying to factory reset my HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 but the option is greyed out on the printer panel.  Please advise on how I can reset this printer.

Thank you,

Hi @Forsonkwesi,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the factory reset option is greyed out on the printer panel of your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978, there are a few alternative methods you can try to perform a reset:

Using the Embedded Web Server (EWS):

  • Open a web browser on a computer connected to the same network as your printer.
  • Enter the printer's IP address into the browser's address bar. You can find the printer's IP address by printing a network configuration page from the printer's control panel.
  • Once logged into the EWS, navigate to the "Tools" or "Settings" section.
  • Look for an option to reset the printer to factory defaults or restore factory settings. This option may vary depending on the printer model.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to initiate the reset.

Using HP Smart App:

  • If you have the HP Smart App installed on your computer or mobile device, you may be able to reset the printer from there.
  • Open the HP Smart App and select your printer from the list of available devices.
  • Navigate to the printer settings or maintenance section.
  • Look for an option to reset the printer to factory defaults or restore factory settings.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to initiate the reset.

Performing a Semi-Full Reset:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
