Hi @PaulVG,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer is showing as online but you're encountering an "unable to connect to server" error when trying to print from your Mac, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.

  • Check Network Connection: Ensure that both your Mac and the HP printer are connected to the same network. Sometimes, despite being connected to the network, there might be connectivity issues that prevent proper communication.
  • Restart Devices: Turn off both your Mac and the HP printer, then turn them back on after a minute or so. This can help reset the network connections and clear any temporary glitches.
  • Update Printer Drivers: Make sure you have the latest printer drivers installed on your Mac. You can usually download these from the HP website or through the macOS Software Update feature.
  • Reset Printing System: On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, then right-click (or Control-click) on the list of printers and select "Reset printing system." This will remove all printers from your list. Afterward, re-add your HP OfficeJet Pro 9020.
  • Reinstall Printer: Remove the printer from your Mac's printer list and then re-add it. To do this, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select the HP printer from the list, and click the '-' button to remove it. Then click the '+' button to add it back.
  • Check Firewall/Antivirus Settings: Sometimes, firewall or antivirus settings can block printer communication. Make sure that your firewall or antivirus software is not blocking communication with the printer.
  • Check Printer Settings: On the printer itself, ensure that the network settings are correctly configured, especially if you've recently changed routers. You may need to reconfigure the printer to connect to the new router.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the "unable to connect to server" error and successfully print from your Mac to your HP OfficeJet Pro 9020.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
