Hello, I have a deskjet 2852e and cannot connect. Gives me error code -900. I only have a 5 Ghz wifi, not the 2.8 Ghz it asks for so what do I do? Throw it in the garbage cuz my wifi is too good?!⁶⁶

@Chadanhalt, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The HP DeskJet 2852e, only supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks, which is why you're seeing that error. The good news is: you don’t need to throw it out, there are a few easy workarounds!

Here’s what you can try:

Check if your router supports dual-band (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz):

  • Many modern routers broadcast both frequencies. Sometimes they combine them under one network name (SSID), but you can usually split them in your router settings.
  • Log into your router’s admin page (usually something like 192.168.1.1 in your browser) and look for Wireless Settings. Enable or rename the 2.4 GHz band so you can connect the printer to it.

Use a mobile hotspot (temporarily):

  • If you have a phone that can create a 2.4 GHz hotspot, use it to set up the printer. Once it’s configured, you might be able to use it via USB or HP Smart app.

Connect via USB:

  • If Wi-Fi isn’t an option, you can always connect the printer to your PC using a USB cable.

Mesh Wi-Fi systems:

  • If you’re using a mesh system (like Google Nest, Eero, etc.), check if it allows you to temporarily enable a 2.4 GHz-only guest network for setup.

Bonus Tip:

Make sure you’re using the HP Smart app for setup, it guides you through the process and can help detect network issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
