This issue was discovered on an HP ENVY Photo 7155, but I believe it exists on other wireless printers.
When entering the wireless network password via the front panel, the password that is stored is SILENTLY TRUNCATED ! After wasting almost 3 hours, I finally discovered it when I requested a status report and click the "do not hide" icon for the password !
The solution is to enter the router setup and change the password to something shorter.

Thank you for posting this. I have also read that leading or trailing blank spaces can cause a problem.
There is a known keyboard glitch on several HP printer touchscreen models. When using the printer's built-in control panel to type a Wi-Fi password, the cursor can accidentally insert an automatic leading blank space or shift the cursor forward on the very first character. Because the space is invisible, it looks like you typed your password correctly, but the router rejects it as an incorrect password

Could be, but not in this case. When I did a status report and turned OFF "hide password", it had clearly truncated the password ! Changing the WiFi password on the router made it work perfectly !
