The printer disconnected itself from my Laptop. It can be discovered but will not reinstall saying to contact the manufacturer. It works through HP smart on my phone but this is not practical.

It is connected WIFI wise when I check the device manager.

Hi @Iamlaurah,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your printer has developed a connectivity issue with your laptop, despite being operational through the HP Smart app on your phone. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

Reboot Devices:

  • Turn off both your printer and your laptop. Unplug your printer from the power source, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in. Then, turn both devices back on.

Check Network Connection:

  • Ensure both the printer and your laptop are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. It might help to reconnect both devices to the Wi-Fi network to ensure they are on the same network and receiving a strong signal.

Update Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support website to check if there are any updated drivers for your specific printer model. Official HP® Support. Download and install any necessary updates.

Remove and Reinstall Printer:

  • On your laptop, go to Devices and Printers.
  • Remove the printer by right-clicking and selecting Remove Device.
  • Attempt to add the printer again using the Add Printer feature, ensuring it is selected from the list of available printers.

Firewall and Antivirus:

  • Temporarily disable any firewall or antivirus software to rule out connectivity interference. Ensure to re-enable them after testing.

Check Device Manager:

  • Go to Device Manager on your laptop and check for any warning symbols next to the printer or any network adapters. Update drivers where needed.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
