Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

I’m currently using an HP Color MFP E47528, and one issue has been consistently frustrating.

The printer cannot be kept awake indefinitely. The maximum idle timeout is capped at 59 minutes, and once the device goes to sleep on the network, it won’t wake automatically when a print job is sent. Instead, someone has to physically walk over and tap the screen to wake it up first, which defeats the purpose of having a network printer.

The only workaround I’ve found is to create multiple scheduled wake events throughout the day (for example, one every 30 minutes) and set the sleep timer to its maximum of 59 minutes. This effectively keeps the printer from staying asleep too long, but it’s clearly not an ideal or scalable solution.

For context, I’m operating in an environment without reliable high-speed internet (on a ship), so reliance on cloud-based features is not practical. The current design seems heavily geared toward always-connected environments, which doesn’t suit all use cases.

Hopefully this helps others facing the same issue. HP really needs to reconsider this limitation—there are still many environments where simple, reliable local network functionality is far more important than cloud integration.

If you are using current firmware 5.9.2.3 your power options should look like this (this is my 577, but should be the same)
