@Denise1758, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Printer Issues When Only Test Pages Print!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your printer can print a test page but isn't printing from applications like Word or Excel, there might be several reasons for this issue. Here’s a step-by-step guide to resolve it:

Check Printer Connections:

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected via USB or network. Check the cables and connection status.

Printer Settings:

  • Make sure the printer is set as the default printer for your computer:
    • Windows: Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers. Right-click on your printer and select "Set as default printer."
    • MacOS: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, and ensure your printer is set as default.

Print Queue:

  • Sometimes, a stuck print job can prevent new jobs from processing.
    • Check your print queue for any stuck jobs and clear them out.

Driver Issues:

  • Ensure that the printer drivers are up to date. Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause printing problems.
    • Windows: Go to Device Manager, find your printer, right-click, and select "Update driver."
    • MacOS: Use the manufacturer's website to download and install the latest drivers.

Application Settings:

  • Verify that your printing application (Word, Excel, etc.) is using the correct printer settings.
  • Check if there is any error message when trying to print directly from the application.

Testing Different Applications:

  • Try printing from different applications to identify if the problem is isolated to a specific app or file type.

Printer Status:

  • Ensure the printer is online and ready. Check for any potential error messages on the printer's display panel.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
