Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

My laptop and printer are connected to the same wifi. I've restarted both machines multiple times. The HP Smart app says the printer is ready. However, when I try to print, the Print Center says the printer is offline and never prints. Can anyone help?

Hi @RonJ3,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 printer shows as connected on the HP Smart app but appears offline when you try to print, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve this issue.

Check Printer Connection

Restart Devices: Ensure both your laptop and printer have been restarted recently. Sometimes, a simple reboot can resolve connectivity issues.

Verify Wi-Fi Connection: Double-check that both the printer and your laptop are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Even if they appear to be connected, there might be a network issue causing communication problems.

Printer Status Lights: Look at the printer's control panel or display to see if there are any error messages or indications of connectivity issues (such as a solid or blinking Wi-Fi icon).

Reset Printing System (Mac)

If you're using a Mac, resetting the printing system can sometimes help resolve connectivity issues:

  1. Open System Preferences.
  2. Go to Printers & Scanners.
  3. Right-click (or Control-click) on the list of printers on the left sidebar and choose Reset printing system.
  4. Confirm the action if prompted.
  5. After resetting, re-add your printer by clicking the + button and selecting your printer.

Check Printer Settings (Windows)

If you're using Windows, ensure the printer is set as the default printer and check its status:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click on your printer and ensure Use Printer Online is checked (if available).
  3. If it shows as offline, right-click again and select See what's printing. From the queue window, click on Printer and ensure Use Printer Offline is not checked.

Reinstall Printer Drivers

Sometimes, reinstalling the printer drivers can fix connectivity issues:

Uninstall Printer: Disconnect the printer from your computer, uninstall its drivers from the Control Panel (Windows) or Applications folder (Mac).

Reinstall Drivers: Visit the HP support website, download the latest drivers for your printer model, and reinstall them following the provided instructions.

Update Firmware (if applicable)

Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed:

  1. Open the HP Smart app or visit the HP support website.
  2. Check for firmware updates for your printer model and follow the instructions to update it if a newer version is available.

Check Firewall and Security Software

Firewall or security software settings on your computer might be blocking communication with the printer. Temporarily disable them (if safe) to see if the printer comes online.

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and resolve why your HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 printer is showing as offline despite being connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
