Microsoft Windows 11

I have an HP Officejet 9010series and HP Envy 6000 series printers. I keep getting "Printer Status: Offline" on either or both printers. Sometimes 1 printer will be offline while the other printer is in Idle. Other times both printers have a "Printer Status: Offline" I can't figure out what's going on. Can't seem to find out what is causing this.  This started occurring about a week ago out of nowhere.

I do see the HP Support Assistant in the task bar has a RED Circle with an Explanation mark in it. I click on it but can't seem to find any device it's related to.  Could sure use some expert help'

Thanks for taking the time to read this note and your response.

Hi @Dcatarin,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you’re having trouble with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e and HP Envy 6000 printers showing as "Offline."

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to try and resolve the issue:

1. Check Printer Connections

  • USB Connection: Ensure that the USB cable is securely connected if you are using a wired connection.
  • Wireless Connection: If using Wi-Fi, check that both printers are connected to the same network as your computer. You can print a network configuration page from the printer settings to confirm.

2. Restart Devices

  • Printers: Turn off both printers, unplug them for about a minute, then plug them back in and turn them on.
  • Computer: Restart your computer to refresh the connection.

3. Set Printer as Default

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click on the printer you want to use (e.g., OfficeJet Pro 9015e) and select Set as Default Printer.

4. Update Drivers

  • Open the HP Support Assistant and check for any updates for your printer drivers. If you see a red circle with an exclamation mark, it might indicate that there are issues that need to be addressed.
  • You can also visit the HP Drivers & Software page and enter your printer model to manually download the latest drivers.

5. Disable Use Printer Offline Mode

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Click on your printer and select Open Queue.
  • In the queue window, click on Printer and make sure Use Printer Offline is unchecked.

6. Run Windows Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
  • Select Printer and run the troubleshooter to detect and fix any issues.

7. Check for Firewall/Antivirus Interference

  • Sometimes, security software can block the printer's communication. Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus to see if that resolves the issue. If it does, you may need to adjust the settings to allow printer connections.

8. Reset the Print System

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type the following commands, pressing Enter after each:

    net stop spooler
    del %systemroot%\System32\spool\printers\* /Q
    net start spooler

  • This will reset the print spooler service, which can resolve communication issues.

9. Reinstall Printers

  • If the above steps don’t work, you may need to uninstall and then reinstall your printers. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners, select the printer, and click Remove Device. Then, add it again.

10. Check HP Smart App

  • If you're using the HP Smart app, ensure that it's updated and check the app for any alerts or notifications related to your printers.
